How to Get Your Business Recommended by ChatGPT
A practical guide to making your business discoverable, understandable and backed by relevant evidence for ChatGPT and AI search.
The short answer
To give your business a stronger basis for consideration in ChatGPT, make your public information accessible, describe exactly who you help, and publish evidence that supports those services. Connect each claim to a real customer situation, a source and a date. Then measure whether your pages are being found, cited and acted on.
Being found is the starting point. Being relevant is the goal.
Imagine a customer asking: “Who can help a construction company train office staff to use AI?” A page that says “We offer AI solutions” leaves important questions unanswered. Does the company offer training? Has it worked with similar teams? Is the approach practical for beginners?
Your job is to make those answers available. Discovery makes the business a possible source. Specific services and relevant evidence give someone a reason to consider it. A citation to your article and a recommendation of your company are different outcomes; track them separately.
1. Make the important information accessible.
Publish core service information on pages that visitors can read without an account. Give each service a stable URL, link to it from your navigation or relevant guides, and keep essential facts in visible text.
OpenAI identifies OAI-SearchBot as its crawler for ChatGPT search and recommends permitting it in robots.txt and the hosting infrastructure. Search access and model-training access are separate controls. Read OpenAI’s crawler documentation.
Google says its established SEO fundamentals also apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode. It does not require a special AI schema or new AI text file. Read Google’s guidance for AI features.
2. Describe the problem you solve.
Give each service a clear name, intended customer, typical starting situation, scope and practical next step. Include your location or service area where it matters. Explain constraints such as the systems you support or projects you do not take on.
General: “We help businesses with AI.”
Specific: “Practical AI workshops for office teams starting with everyday tasks such as drafting emails, summarising documents and preparing meetings.”
The second description tells a potential customer what the service is for. It still needs evidence of delivery; clear wording alone does not prove experience.
3. Give every important claim something to stand on.
Publish cases that explain the customer’s starting situation, your contribution and the outcome. Add customer experiences with context, and link credentials to their issuing source. Distinguish what you say from what a customer confirms.
A report of time saved should explain who reported it and how it was assessed. A customer quote about confidence should stay a quote about confidence. The strongest profile makes its evidence easy to inspect.

4. Measure visibility and customer action.
Keep a dated set of relevant customer questions. Record which assistant you used, whether search was enabled, which sources appeared and whether your business was mentioned. Repeat consistently; a single answer is one observation.
Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report shows citations and cited URLs across its supported AI experiences. It does not represent every ChatGPT answer. See what the report measures.
Combine citation observations with referral visits and completed enquiries. This helps you separate being seen from generating useful business opportunities.
